Definitions
Many of the following definitions are provided as they pertain to food cultivation or in classifying healthy food itself.If there are other terms that you would like clarified, please email the web manager with any details.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
CSA is used to describe a farmer consumer contract for the purchase of produce, fruit and other agricultural products.

The details differ from Producer to Producer, but essentially the consumer purchases shares in advance of the upcoming crops to ensure a constant sources of product over the upcoming season. Some farms deal with multiple seasons - summer and winter crops. Some provide alternate pickup locations and delivery. The size and composition of the CSA Share also differs from one contract to the next from a full share to fractions of the share such as 1/2 or 1/4 to accomodate family size and needs. Prices for shares or parts of the share differ among farming operations, season and produce and fruits. Buying shares in advance, puts desposible cash into the hands of the farmer to purchase seed, equipment in advance of planting and the security of having a ready market for the upcoming harvest.
